Portland Christian Social Dance
Association's
Dance Floor Etiquette and other Rules
updated for 2009
Social dancing has developed rules of etiquette over many years. There are many websites that deal with etiquette at a social dances. We don't feel the necessity of copying the good work that has already been done. Here is a link to Aria Nosratinia's Elements of Dance Etiquette. Of course, as you read, you will see that not everything will apply at Christian Social Dance Association dances.
Here are a few rules that apply to our social dances at the Ballroom Dance Company in Tigard. For your safety and everyone’s enjoyment these rules are direct and to the point. If you have any questions please contact us at admin@christiansocialdance.org or call us at 503.341.7398. We welcome your comments. These rules are subject to change at any time.
1. Shoes must be clean and not damaging to the dance floor.
2. No eating or drinking on the dance floor. Keep food on the loft or in the kitchen. If a spill occurs clean it up immediately.
3. Children under 16 must be in the company of a responsible adult. Small children must be in arms reach of a responsible adult at all times. Toddlers are not allowed on the dance floor. Sorry, childcare is not avalable at this time.
4. Our dance floor is divided into one lane on the outside and two areas on the inside. The traffic on the outside lane moves counterclockwise. The center of the floor has two areas (front and back) and is for line dancing, swinging, free style, etc. Don't use the dance floor for a pathway to cross to the other side of the room. Walk as close to the outside as possible and walk all the way around the dance floor to reach the other side.
5. Social dancing only: No unannounced performances or aerials.
6. Sexually explicit dance moves are not allowed.
7. As
Christians we dance in celebration of the life God has given us; however,
everyone is welcome at our dances without regard to religious preferences or
faith. If asked you are always welcome to share your beliefs; however,
unwelcomed proselytizing is not allowed.
